3rd Street Improvement Project » 3rd Street Improvement Project
Traffic moves along 3rd St. as construction has begun on the city’s North Third Street improvement project, the start of what will be more than a year of traffic congestion at the gateway to downtown. Work will be done a couple blocks at a time, eventually finishing at Davis Street.
Now, traffic on Third Street from Market to Chestnut streets is down to one lane in both directions. East-West traffic in the intersection of Market and 3rd streets will also be narrowed to one lane in either direction.
The $9.4 million renovation includes replacement of aging water and sewer lines, the placement of power and other utilities underground, and new street paving, sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, lighting and traffic signals.
Construction is expected to take around 13 months.
Work will take place from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday with some night and weekend work as necessary.
